News > New Farmoz formulation captures attention in horticulture
Pineapple growers and the resellers who supply them are responding well to this season’s launch of Uragan WG (bromacil), a new granular herbicide formulation from Farmoz.
The high quality granules are winning favour among pineapple growers who have had no other option but to use a wettable powder formulation of bromacil for years.
Jonathan McDonald, Commercial Manager for Farmoz in south-east Queensland, says the pineapple industry has welcomed the new granular formulation because of its ease of handling, storage and mixing.
“Just as other customers have found, this industry is recognising that Farmoz offers high quality granules which are easy to use in every sense, whether it’s at the reseller store or in measuring, mixing and storing those products on-farm,” Jonathan said.
Uragan WG was launched this season in the Queensland pineapple industry, which is mainly centred along the coastal strip from Bundaberg south to Beerwah.
Pineapple growers are finding Uragan WG an ideal tank mix partner with two other Farmoz granular products, Ametrex 800 (ametryn) and Diuron 900 WDG.
“While south-east Queensland is experiencing more than its fair share of warm, dry weather, market prospects for pineapples are generally favourable,” Jonathan said.
“This is particularly the case in the fresh market which is benefiting from the release of sweeter varieties and more consistent supplies.”
He added that the early finish to winter had seen tree crops like macadamias flowering earlier than usual and the increased prevalence of fungal diseases such as macadamia husk spot.
This had created opportunities for Howzat SC (carbendazim) fungicide from Farmoz.
“The same dry conditions have led to increased powdery mildew pressure in crops like cucurbits, so another trusted fungicide, Nimrod (bupirimate), is performing well.”
Jonathan said the warm growing conditions had extended the season for horticultural growers in south-east Queensland, compared with southern growers who had experienced a long cool winter.
“It means growers in districts like Bundaberg and Stanthorpe are likely to benefit from stronger prices over the next few months, creating business opportunities for resellers.
“With our strong range of fungicides, insecticides and herbicides for use in horticultural crops, Farmoz is well equipped to assist,” he said.
